Philip "Chicken Man" Testa was a prominent Italian-American mobster who served as the boss of the Philadelphia crime family from 1980 until his assassination in 1981. He was known for his ruthless and violent tactics, earning him the nickname "Chicken Man" due to his involvement in the poultry industry.
Testa rose through the ranks of the Philadelphia crime family under the leadership of Angelo Bruno, and he became the underboss in 1970. After Bruno was murdered in 1980, Testa assumed the position of boss. However, his reign was short-lived as he was killed in a car bomb attack outside his South Philadelphia home in March 1981.
The motive for Testa's assassination remains unclear, with speculation that it was carried out by rival factions within the mob or in retaliation for his own violent actions. His death marked a period of instability within the Philadelphia crime family, as various factions fought for control of the organization.
